Discovering the Greenway Together

Chicstitch Ltd has been championing accessible cycling for older adults along the Midleton to Youghal rail trail since 2016. We're committed to making this beautiful route welcoming and achievable for every pensioner who wants to experience it.

How It All Started

Back in 2016, we noticed something frustrating. The Midleton to Youghal route is genuinely flat, genuinely beautiful, and genuinely perfect for older cyclists. But many pensioners didn't realize it was even an option. Some thought cycling was only for the young. Others weren't sure if they could manage it. We couldn't let that stand.

Chicstitch Ltd started with a simple mission: show people over 60 that they're stronger than they think. That a 30-minute cycle through the countryside isn't just possible — it's brilliant. We've spent years learning what actually works. What surfaces feel comfortable. Which sections are quieter. How to make the whole experience feel less like exercise and more like adventure.

We're not interested in turning everyone into serious cyclists. We just want pensioners to experience the route their way. Some prefer a leisurely amble on a Sunday morning. Others enjoy the social aspect — meeting friends along the trail. A few have even discovered they're more capable than they imagined and now cycle further than they thought possible. That's the real win for us.

Making the Greenway Genuinely Accessible

1

Honest Route Assessment

We've cycled this route hundreds of times in all conditions. We know every smooth section, every slight gradient, every place to stop and rest. That's not something you learn from a map — it's experience.

2

Practical Guidance

We don't overcomplicate things. Here's what you actually need to bring. Here's a realistic pace. Here's where to rest. No marketing nonsense, just practical information that makes cycling feel achievable.

3

Confidence Building

Many pensioners haven't cycled in decades. We help rebuild that confidence through steady encouragement and genuine support. You're not being judged. You're being helped.

4

Community Connection

The best part? Meeting other people doing the same thing. We've watched friendships form, groups organize their own cycles, and a real community grow around the greenway.

The Principles We Stand By

Simplicity First

Cycling shouldn't be complicated. We strip away the jargon and focus on what matters — getting you safely and happily on the route.

Respect for Every Pace

Whether you're cycling fast or slow, covering 5 km or 15 km, you're doing it right. There's no "proper" way to enjoy the greenway.

Real Community

We've created something where pensioners actually want to be. Not because they feel obligated, but because it's genuinely enjoyable and welcoming.

Local Expertise

We're based right here in Cork. We know this trail intimately and we're invested in making it the best experience possible for our community.

Honest Communication

We won't oversell what cycling can do. We will tell you the truth about difficulty levels, fitness requirements, and what you'll actually experience.

Safety Always

Whether it's route planning, weather awareness, or bike maintenance advice, safety underpins everything we recommend and teach.
